If you drive up I-5 until you nearly reach the Canadian border, and turn off at the last exit (276), you’ll find yourself in charming Blaine by the Sea. September (2021) marks the centennial of the Peace Arch, which commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in 1814 and symbolizes a long history of peace between the two nations. Peace Arch State Park, where you can visit the arch, is only a short walk from downtown Blaine. Stroll the waterfront, and then get super-fresh oysters from a working farm for lunch!
